Pavé Engagement Rings
Light, all the way down.
If a solitaire is about the single stone, a pavé ring is about light everywhere. Small diamonds are set along the band so the whole ring glitters — not just the centre. Pronounced “pah-vay,” the name comes from the French for “paved,” because the surface looks paved in diamonds.
What is a pavé setting?
In a pavé setting, a row of small accent diamonds is set into the band, held by tiny beads or prongs of metal so little gold shows between them. The result is a continuous line of sparkle leading up to the centre stone, making the entire ring feel more brilliant and luxurious.
Micro-pavé vs. French pavé
| Style | Look |
|---|---|
| Micro-pavé | Very small, tightly-set stones for a smooth, continuous shimmer |
| French pavé | Tiny V-shaped cut-outs beneath each stone let in more light for extra fire |
You can choose either — and how far the diamonds travel down the band — in the ring builder.
Does pavé make the ring look bigger?
Yes. By extending sparkle along the band, pavé draws the eye outward and makes the whole ring feel larger and more important, even before you reach the centre stone. Paired with a 3-carat-plus centre, the effect is genuinely striking.
Best shapes & pairings
Pavé flatters every centre shape and pairs beautifully with a hidden halo for layered brilliance, or a solitaire centre for a balance of clean and sparkling. See shape options in our shapes guide.
The Montare pavé standard
Cheap pavé uses low-grade accent stones that look grey beside a fine centre diamond. Montare holds the accents to the same colourless, eye-clean standard as the centre.
Caring for a pavé ring
Pavé is durable when set well, but the small stones benefit from an occasional professional check and clean. Montare rings are hand-set in Toronto under magnification, and our lifetime care keeps every stone secure.

What is a pavé engagement ring?
A pavé engagement ring has a band lined with small accent diamonds set closely together, so the ring sparkles along its length and not just at the centre stone.
What is the difference between micro-pavé and French pavé?
Micro-pavé uses very small, tightly set stones for a smooth continuous shimmer. French pavé adds tiny V-shaped cut-outs beneath each diamond to let in more light, giving extra fire and a more open look.
Do pavé diamonds fall out easily?
Not when they are set well and cared for. Quality pavé held by proper beads or prongs is secure; an occasional professional inspection keeps the small stones tight. Montare rings are hand-set under magnification and backed by lifetime care.
Does a pavé band make a diamond look bigger?
Yes. The continuous line of sparkle along the band draws the eye outward and makes the whole ring read larger and more brilliant than a plain band with the same centre stone.
