We send a prepaid, insured label for your original ring. Your diamond comes back to you — keep it, or have us set it into a pendant — while your new one is made. 2 to 4 weeks later, it's on your hand.

Is there a minimum I have to spend on the new ring?◆
The one condition: your new design needs to exceed the value of your original. Most clients step up in carat, complexity, or metal — apply your setting credit and simply pay the difference.
How much credit do I get?◆
100% of your setting's value — the full price you originally paid for the mount and band, with no depreciation. Your centre diamond isn't part of the credit: you keep it, or we set it into a pendant for you.
Can I upgrade more than once?◆
Absolutely. Every Montare ring you own carries its own lifetime credit. Trade up, trade up again, pass one to a family member — the credit stays with the ring.
What condition does the original have to be in?◆
It needs to be intact — we accept normal wear (scratches, patina, prong wear). We can't accept rings missing stones or with structural damage beyond reasonable repair. If you're unsure, send a photo first.
Can I upgrade a ring I received as a gift?◆
Yes. The credit follows the ring, not the original purchaser. As long as it's a Montare ring with our certificate, you can upgrade it.
What happens to my old ring?◆
Your diamond is always yours — keep it loose, or let us set it into a pendant. We recast the metal from your old setting in our Toronto workshop, so nothing is wasted.
Is this different from the warranty?◆
Yes. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects (prong tightening, stone resetting). The Setting Upgrade program is a separate, voluntary promise — use it whenever you want a different ring, for any reason.
