How The Montare Journal is researched, reviewed, and corrected

Everything in The Montare Journal is written to help someone make a diamond purchase they will not regret. That only works if the writing is accountable, so this page states plainly who writes it, what we check it against, how we make money, and what we do when we get something wrong.

Who writes it

Articles are written and signed by Vish Singh, founder of Montare Diamonds. Every article carries a visible byline, a publication date, and a last-updated date. We do not publish anonymously, and we do not use invented author names.

What we check against

Technical claims about grading, proportions, and certification are checked against primary sources — the published grading standards and report formats of the IGI and the GIA — not against other retailers’ marketing copy. Where the two laboratories differ, we say so rather than quoting whichever is more flattering.

Proportion figures we publish — table percentage, depth percentage, length-to-width ratio — are the same windows we buy to. If a number appears in an article, it is the number a stone has to hit to enter our catalogue.

Where the numbers come from

Price and specification examples reflect our own made-to-order pricing at the time of writing. We do not publish market-wide price predictions, and we do not present an estimate as a measurement. Where a figure is an approximation, it is labelled as one.

How we make money, stated plainly

Montare sells engagement rings and wedding bands directly. We run no affiliate links, take no payment for coverage, and accept no sponsored placements in the Journal. Every article is written by a company that would like to sell you a ring — you should read it with that in mind, which is precisely why we publish the grading criteria instead of asking you to take our word for it.

Corrections

When we find a factual error, we fix it in place and update the article’s last-updated date. Corrections that change the substance of a recommendation are noted in the article itself rather than made silently.

Keeping guidance current

Grading standards change — the GIA’s 2025 revision to its lab-grown descriptors is a recent example. When a standard changes, we revisit the affected articles rather than leaving stale guidance in place.
