Vish Singh
Founder, Montare Diamonds · Toronto, Canada

I founded Montare Diamonds to sell engagement rings the way I would want one sold to me: with the grading disclosed up front, the proportions published, and no stone in the catalogue that I would not be happy to put in front of my own family.
Montare is built on three decades of family diamond manufacturing in Toronto. For most of that time the work carried other companies’ names — we cut, set, and finished pieces that were sold under brands that never mentioned who made them. Montare is the first time that work carries ours.
What I actually do here
I set the diamond standard the company buys to, and I hold it. That means I decide what we will not sell as much as what we will:
- I define the per-shape proportion windows — table, depth, and length-to-width — that a stone has to fall inside before it can be listed.
- I review every diamond against its IGI report before it is set.
- I write and maintain the technical articles in The Montare Journal, and I am the person accountable for anything wrong in them.
What I write about
My subject is cut quality and grading — the part of a diamond purchase that is hardest for a buyer to verify and easiest for a seller to blur. A few of the pieces I would point someone to first:
- What Triple Excellent actually means — and why the phrase is used loosely across the industry.
- Depth percentage by shape — the numbers behind whether a stone looks its carat weight.
- The GIA lab-grown grading change — what the move to Premium and Standard descriptors means for buyers.
- IGI versus GIA on lab-grown — why we certify where we do.
