How your ring will be made

  • Designed first, then your diamond is sourced to fit it

Only about 1 in 350 lab-grown diamonds on the wholesale market meets this standard. Most jewellers don’t hold it. We do.

The Montare Standard

How every ring is made

A standard for the stone is only half a standard. This is how every Montare ring is made in our Toronto workshop, drawing on more than thirty years at the bench.

  1. The design comes first. Proportion, profile, how high the centre sits and how the band meets a wedding band are decided before any stone is bought.
  2. Your diamond is sourced to the design. The setting is then dimensioned to that exact stone, not to a size on a chart.
  3. You approve the 3D design. A to-scale rendering from every angle. Nothing moves forward until you’re happy with it.
  4. You approve the diamond. You receive its IGI certificate and a 360° video before it is set.
  5. Cast from your approved design, always. Then worked by hand at the bench, where the quality goes in.
  6. Re-cast if it isn’t right. An imperfect casting is scrapped and cast again. We would rather lose the gold than leave a flaw inside a prong.
  7. Hand-set under magnification. Every stone is seated and tightened individually.
  8. Hand polished, never tumbled. The gallery, the under-setting and the inside of the shank are finished to the same standard as the top. Then inspected and delivered fully insured.

What we never do

  • No wax setting. Stones are never cast in place.
  • No tumble or bulk polishing.
  • No filling or polishing over a bad casting.
  • No plated base metal and no hollowed shanks.

The diamond

Only about 1 in 350 lab-grown diamonds on the wholesale market meets this standard. Colour and clarity are the easy part. The right table, depth and length-to-width for each shape rules out about 9 in 10 of what’s left. Stones at this standard cost around 50% more to source, which is why most jewellers don’t hold this floor. We do.

Lab-grown as standard. Mined diamonds are available by special commission, held to the same floor. Made to order in 2–4 weeks once your design is approved.

Get to know me

Hi, I’m Vish.

I married into this business. My father-in-law has been a goldsmith for over 30 years, making fine jewellery for other brands.

So I stepped in and created Montare, to put that craftsmanship under our own name and to sell engagement rings the way I would want one sold to me.

We value quality and honesty, which is why we have a floor. Every centre stone is at least 3 carats, always colourless, only VVS, with a triple excellent cut, ideal proportions and an IGI certificate. Nothing below it, and no exceptions.

And it doesn’t stop at the diamond. We care just as much about the rest of your ring, making sure there isn’t a single thing missing or wrong. Every ring is made to order, and the aim is always to make yours the best it can be.

When you send me a design, I read it myself. And I stay in touch with every client personally after they buy, so whenever you’d like to use your perks, like a cleaning, you’ll be dealing with me.

    Vish, our founder, reviews your design himself and reaches out to set up a short consultation - by email, call, or text, whichever you prefer.

    Your Consultation

    A 30-minute conversation to understand exactly what you want, from the shape to the smallest detail. Then we send your exact price.

    Deposit, Then CAD

    Once you approve the price, we send a secure payment link with every detail. Your 50% deposit starts the 3D renders, refined until the ring is exactly right. Nothing is made until you approve the final render.

  • 4

    Made to Order

    Cast from your approved design and hand-set in Toronto under 100× magnification, in 2–4 weeks once the design is approved. IGI-certified. Once you approve your finished ring, the remaining 50% is due, and it’s delivered free and fully insured to your door.
